Exterior flaws include scratches, stains on the white paint, and pitted brightwork. Additional features include chrome bumpers with overriders, a single-piece windshield with an electric wiper and plexiglass wind wings, and Bantam side badges. Factory external headlights have been replaced by units frenched into the front fenders, and a chrome grille insert has also been installed along with 1949 Chevrolet taillights. This roadster model is one of approximately 1,200 built for the 1939 model year and is finished in black with white coves. The company was revived the following year by former Austin salesman Roy Evans, who commissioned designer Alexis de Sakhnoffsky to restyle the Seven into the American Bantam, before production resumed in 1937. The American Austin Car Company was founded in 1929 in Butler, Pennsylvania, and built an American version of the British Austin Seven until filing for bankruptcy in 1934. This Bantam Roadster is now offered by the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Foundation with an owner’s manual, spare parts, and a clean Indiana title. In preparation for the sale IMS Museum staff repaired the ignition switch, cleaned the carburetor and spark plugs, and buffed the paint. Modifications added during previous ownership include custom headlights, a chrome grille insert, 1949 Chevrolet taillights, a dashboard sourced from a 1948 Plymouth, and roll-and-pleat upholstery. Power comes from a 50ci inline-four paired with a three-speed synchromesh transmission. The car was incorporated into the IMS Museum collection in the 1980s and spent the past decade in their climate-controlled storage facility. © « » - 2022 This website uses cookies to ensure you get the best experience on our website. This 1939 Bantam roadster was purchased by the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Foundation in 1967 and was then displayed at Tony Hulman’s Early Wheels Museum in Terre Haute, Indiana.
